Carriages By Candlelight (VA)
June 9 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Maymont, the Gilded Age Estate in Richmond, Virginia, will present the second annual “Carriages by Candlelight,” a unique celebration of the Maymont Carriage Collection, on Sunday, June 9, 2019, 6-9 p.m.
Guests will enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres and spirits among the beautiful antique carriages displayed on the Carriage House Lawn and in the historic Carriage House. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Rhythm Masters.
While none of the Dooleys’ carriages survive, Maymont’s collection of twenty-five vehicles reflects what was appropriate for an estate inventory, including an elegant Skeleton Boot Victoria by Brewster and Company, a Park Drag (maker unknown), a Landau by W. Larsons Ikker of Denmark, and a Brougham by Henry Hooker, Vermont. The event offers an opportunity to see the collection up close.
Victorian ladies and gentlemen bring the past to life as they mingle with guests among imaginative tableau vivant, or living pictures, depicting Gilded Age scenes. Proceeds from the event benefit the Maymont Carriage Program including year-round carriage ride experiences for guests, care for the horses, and maintenance and repair of the carriage collection.
Tickets are $100 per person. To register, visit maymont.org/carriages-by-candlelight or contact Nancy
Lowden, Manager of Historical Programs, at [email protected] or 804-358-7166, ext. 350. The Carriage
House is located at Maymont’s historic estate entrance at 1700 Hampton Street in Richmond, Virginia.
